6th Armored patch
Combat History of the Super Sixth

Introduction

As documented elsewhere on this web site, the 6th Armored Division, while still in Germany in 1945, published a formal, detailed, but somewhat dry summary of its campaigns: the Combat Record of the Sixth Armored Division.

Two years later, William E. Rutledge, Jr., who had served with Division Headquarters, privately published a new document called the Combat History of the Sixth Armored Division. Although based on information found in the Combat Record, the Combat History contained several pages of division history, photographs, and personal comments that the Combat Record did not provide.

Excerpts from these additional pages are reproduced here with the generous permission of the Rutledge family.
